Compared with similar schools they are stricter about evidence of quantitative rigor and creative problem solving, but more forgiving about narrow extracurricular breadth if the applicant shows collaborative impact and clear contribution.
Use the supplemental space to demonstrate specific fit with HMC programs and culture: mention concrete professors, the Clinic Program projects, CS&E or engineering tracks, the Claremont Consortium courses you would take, and how your past project or research prepares you to contribute to team-based Clinic work. For short "why HMC" answers, cite a particular course, lab, or Clinic outcome and a 1-2 sentence example of how you would add to collaborative STEM problem solving there, avoiding generic praise of "rigor" or "reputation."
