Use the why-Amherst and community essays to show concrete plans that rely on the open curriculum and Five College access, for example naming specific courses, professors, research centers, or cross-registration opportunities at UMass or Smith that fit your trajectory. Highlight a project or question you will pursue without curricular constraints, and explain how Amherst’s tutorial-style seminars, undergraduate research funding, or particular departments will enable work you could not do elsewhere.
